Harry Shokler (1896 – 1978), born in Cincinnati, Ohio, was one of the first American artists to develop the technique of silkscreen printing. He studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy, OH, the Chester Springs Academy, PA and the New York School of Fine and Applied Arts. Shokler promoted the medium through his teaching (Brooklyn Museum of Art School), lecturing and as author of the book, “Artists Manual for Silk Screen Printmaking”. His work is in collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum, Carnegie Institute, and the Library of Congress.
