A statement made by Breverman in regards to this print:
“A seated figure is seen from the back, without the obvious insinuation of hands and facial gesture: it is a moment fixed. An attitude, a particular personality, a “portrait” is projected through a relationship between the body and the chair into which it reclines and the interior environment it inhabits. This work forms part of a new series of paintings and drawings which seeks to extract mystery from the ordinary and the familiar”.
Harvey Breveman (1934 – ) was born in Pittsburgh, PA. He studied at Carnegie-Mellon University’s School of Fine Arts. In 1961, he began teaching at the State University at Buffalo, NY. Breverman has exhibited extensively throughout the world, has had many one-man shows and has been the recipient of many awards.
