Charles Wells (1935 – ) is an American sculptor and printmaker born in NYC. After graduating from Amherst College, with a BA in History and English, he returned to NYC and began painting and writing. A winner of the Prix de Rome, Charles continued his art studies for several years in Italy. While in Rome, he became very interested in sculpture. After a brief return to the US, Wells moved back to Italy until 1976. Throughout his career, he sculpted, painted and made prints. Well’s work has been widely exhibited in both Europe and the United States, and he is especially well known for his portraits of famous men.
