Cathal O’Toole (1904 – 1991) was born in Dublin, Ireland and came to the United States in the 1920’s, studying with Hans Hoffman in New York. He traveled to Paris to study painting and printmaking. O’Toole was founder of the Art Department of Wilkes College, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He later relocated to Rochester, NY to study photography at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Cathal continued to teach, paint and print. O’Toole was elected as an Associate of the National Academy of Design in 1944.
