2025 ~ Amos Paul Kennedy Jr. - Bad Printing is Fun/One and God make a majority
Letterpress print on Hahnemühle paper 15.5” x 20″
Amos Paul Kennedy,Jr. defies easy categorization in his artwork which blurs lines of art /design, activist/provocateur, printer/printmaker.
He self-identifies as “a humble negro printer” and stuffmaker”, not an artist, yet his poignant mix of art and activism has been exhibited in dozens of museums and galleries across the United States, including Poster House, the Brooklyn Public Library, the Library of Congress, and the libraries of the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
He is recognized as a Glasgow Fellow in Crafts (2015), an Individual Laureate of the American Printing History Association (2021), he received the Outstanding Printmaker Award from the Mid Atlantic Print Council (2022),and the Southern Graphics Council International Lifetime Achievement Award (2024) among other honors.
Kennedy’s work is deeply rooted in his lived experience growing up during the Civil Rights Era and he strongly identifies with populations that are oppressed. He gives a voice and visibility to those who are discriminated against, in a way that resonates with the masses. Put the message in the hands of the people and move on.
