Lynd Ward (1905 – 1985), born in Chicago, IL was a famous Illustrator and writer of books. He studied at Teachers College, Columbia University and in Leipzig, Germany. Ward won several awards, including the Caldecott Medal for “The Biggest Bear”. Although he is known for his wood engraving, Ward also worked in watercolor, lithography and mezzotint. He illustrated over a hundred children’s books and participated in many gallery and museum exhibitions.
