Barbara McPhail
Born in North Carolina, Barbara McPhail received a BFA in Printmaking and Painting from East Carolina University, and a Masters in Education from Binghamton University. In 1977 she moved to New York City and joined Bob Blackburn’s Printmaking Workshop where she learned the moveable shape monoprint technique for which she is now known. Although monoprint is McPhail’s dominate medium, she also works in collagraph, relief, litho, silkscreen and etching. She teaches at St. Joseph School, Penfield, and St. Michael School, Penn Yan, and offers occasional printmaking workshops at RIT.
Barbara McPhail’s work often relates to social justice, environmental issues and our natural resources. Her work is in private and public collections, including the Library of Congress.
